Meta is a senior research fellow at the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology since 2000. She was involved in the study of viral hepatitis, mainly hepatitis B, which is prevalent in our region. Meta has succeeded in her PhD-defense at the University Medical Center (UMC) Utrecht, Netherlands that was held on 19 October 2012, with a study focusing on the genetic diversity of hepatitis B in Indonesia. Her study was a collaboration study between the Eijkman Institute Jakarta and the Eijkman-Winkler Institute UMC Utrecht.
